The University of Costa Rica (UCR) reaffirmed on 27 May 2025 its commitment to the principles of the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as fundamental guides for university action in favour of human rights, environmental sustainability, equity and social justice.
Through a pronouncement of the University Council, the university expressed its rejection of the recent reforms proposed by the Government of the Republic of Costa Rica, a decree aimed at eliminates the financing and the declaration of public interest of the 2030 Agenda. UCR believes that this action represents a step backwards in terms of sustainable development, environmental policy and international cooperation, so the University urges the government to reconsider this decision. In the past, the University of Costa Rica has maintained a firm commitment to sustainability and human rights, in line with its academic, research and social action work and with the goals of sustainable development, in line with its voluntary adherence to multiple goals of the 2030 Agenda.
