The COVID-19 pandemic has been a transformative moment in history. It mainly generated new challenges, but also new opportunities and it also acted as a catalyst for already existing processes; it accelerated transformations, it exposed strengths and weaknesses of our societies. On one hand, it demonstrated the importance of global cooperation, of knowledge, research and science, but on the other hand, it showed the predominance of narrow interests leading to closeness, competition and eventually greater inequality in the world.
This session will investigate higher education in this new reality, drawing from the results of the second Global Survey on the impact of COVID-19 on higher education, conducted in the first half of 2021.
This virtual side event is part of the official programme of the UNESCO WHEC2022; it brings together the leaders of regional and national organisations and associations of universities to discuss how the pandemic will impact the future of Higher Education, putting special emphasis on lessons learnt during the pandemic and how this experience will shape the future of higher education.
