  • University of Colombo working towards tie-ups with higher education institutions in Bangladesh

    Senior Professor Chandrika N Wijeyaratne, the Vice-Chancellor of University of Colombo met His Excellency Mr. Tareq Md. Ariful Islam, the High Commissioner and Mr. Md. Reyad Hossain, Deputy High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Sri Lanka, on 13 October 2021 at the Vice Chancellor’s Office. Senior Professor Nayani Melegoda, Dean, Faculty of Graduate Studies, Professor Sandagomi Coperahewa, Chair Professor & Head of the Department of Sinhala and Dr. Sashika Manoratne, the Director, International Office, University of Colombo accompanied the Vice-Chancellor at the meeting.
    H. E. the High Commissioner elaborated on Bangladesh – Sri Lanka relationship and its future aspects where educational cooperation would be vital. The Vice Chancellor expressed university’s intentions in connecting with higher education institutions in Bangladesh as well as other South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) nations and assured fullest support for the potential avenues of cooperation with the University of Colombo.

  • AUF - Kick-off of the MOOC CERTICEscol (Certification of ICT skills in schools)

    The MOOC CERTICEscol (Certification of ICT skills in schools), the result of a partnership between the APPRENDRE program and CY Cergy Paris University was launched on October 12, 2021. This free online training coordinated by the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF) and funded by the Agence Française de Development (AFD) is dedicated to teachers (primary and secondary teachers and their educational supervisors) and, more broadly, to education professionals who want to strengthen their digital skills in the use of information technologies and communication in education. The training already has more than 20,000 registered teachers, from Africa, the Maghreb, the Indian Ocean, but also Asia and the Middle East.

    Hormuud University, a private non-profit Institution, majoring in the field of Engineering and Technology in Somalia fosters interest in creativity and innovation.   • Assam Don Bosco University - International Symposium in Mathematics

    The Department of Mathematics, Assam Don Bosco University launches a call for participation to the “International Symposium on Recent Advances in Mathematics & Applications” that they will be organising on 28 October 2021. This Symposium aims to focus on current and significant research topics in Mathematical Sciences. Mathematics - the cradle of all creations helps us understand the world since the development of Mathematics is intricately interwoven with the progress of civilization, influencing the course of history through its application in science and technology. The modern period of mathematics is characterized by the comprehensive and systematic synthesis of mathematical knowledge which is remarkable for uncovering of deep structural phenomena including the generalization, unification and synthesis of all of mathematics. Four World Famous Mathematicians - Professor Shihoko Ishii, University of Tokyo and Tokyo Institute of Technology, Professor Stefano Galatolo, University of Pisa, Professor Xiaoying Han, of Auburn University, Alabama and Professor Martin Bohner, of Missouri University of Science and Technology will deliver talks on the topics of most recent developments in Mathematics.
    The Symposium is a step forward towards achieving objectives of SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 17 (Global Partnership).

  • UNICA Student Declaration 2021

    The UNICA Student Conference, held in July 2021, organised by UNICA in cooperation with NOVA University Lisbon, the Erasmus Student Network, the European Students’ Union, and the International Young Naturefriends lead to the publication of the UNICA Student Declaration 2021:
    In the document students present their views on several European Higher Education pressing issues and recommend actions and practices that they believe will unlock the full potential of universities in their pursuit to tackle societal challenges.

  • New AAU Secretary General Assumes Office

    The new Secretary General of the Association of African Universities (AAU), Prof. Olusola Bandele Oyewole assumed office on Friday October 1, 2021. He succeeds Prof. Etienne Ehilé, who served as the Association’s Secretary General for the last nine years (August 2012 – September 2021). Prof. Oyewole was appointed the Secretary General following a competitive selection process which had several high-profile applicants participating. The announcement of his appointment was first made at the Extra-ordinary General Conference organized by the Association on August 9, 2021.
    Professor Olusola Bandele Oyewole is a Nigerian professor of Food Science and Technology, specifically Food Microbiology and Biotechnology. He is not new to the Association, having served as a staff, and subsequently as a Board Member and President of the Association in the past.

  • AUF has released the whitepaper of the Scientific Francophonie

    The Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF) has just released the whitepaper of the Scientific Francophonie (Livre blanc de la Francophonie scientifique). This over 200-page book of thematic and geographical analyses, tables, graphs and territorial focus (10 regions and 41 countries analyzed) is the result of an unprecedented global consultation undertaken in 2020. This book provides an exhaustive overview of the French-speaking world of science. It will guide the AUF’s strategy over the next four years
