IAU has been working on Higher Education and
Sustainable Development (HESD) since it adopted the Kyoto Declaration on Sustainable
Development in 1993. The first Task Force on topics
related to Sustainable Development was created in 1997. Since
that time IAU undertook several initiatives, contributed to many
international conferences and held its own conference on this topic in
2003. Key partners for IAU in this area have been UNESCO, ULSF,
UNU-IAS among others. IAU remains active by sitting on various
committees (the Ubuntu Committee of peers, reviewing the Regional
Centres of Expertise (RCEs); the UNDESD Reference Group, etc.)
