The 3rd Global Survey
of Internationalization:
Internationalisation of higher education, its growth, diversity of
strategies, impact on universities and other institutions and other
related considerations, continue to be of great interest to higher
education institutions and other stakeholders across the globe.
To this end IAU has launched its 3rd
Global Survey of Internationalisation
of higher education.
Working together with an expert Task Force, composed of senior figures
in the field of internationalisation from various regions of the world,
who will provide advice and expertise to the IAU on the new
questionnaires, the overall strategy and the questionnaires are now
being elaborated.
Surveying both individual institutions, and national associations, the
3rd Global Survey will focus on some of the topics surveyed previously
including: importance, rationales, benefits, risks, institutional
policy/strategy and activities; foreign language learning; facilitators
and obstacles; issues and challenges, etc. This will allow for some
longitudinal comparison with the results of the two previous global
surveys undertaken by IAU in 2003 and 2005.
At the same time, the 3rd Survey will take a slightly new orientation
striving to complement the collection of data for macro/regional trend
analysis with more practical and tangible data of use at the
institutional level. Information as diverse as how institutions
commit to their internationalisation goals in demonstrable ways, how
they monitor achievement, how large a budget is allocated for
internationalisation, or the policies concerning international
networks, etc, will be collected in order to provide useful and helpful
information for institutions as they plan their strategy and better
adapt to the changing context.
A geographically representative and balanced sample of some 3000
university-level HEIs will be invited to complete the questionnaire,
starting in 2009. All national associations of universities
or their equivalents will also be surveyed.
