The IAU is pleased to announce that the Association of International Education Administrators (AIEA) has endorsed IAU’s: Affirming Academic Values in Internationalization of Higher Education: A Call for Action. The Call for Action has now been posted on the AIEA website, with an endorsement from the Association (see: http://aieaworld.org/index.htm ).

As stated on the AIEA website: “This Call for Action shines a light on the changing process of internationalization, its many benefits and potential adverse impacts, whilst also outlining how institutions can re-center the process of internationalization around academic fundamentals”.

Based in the United States, AIEA is a membership organization formed in November 1982. It is composed of institutional leaders engaged in advancing the international dimensions of higher education. Susan Buck Sutton, former AIEA President and Darla K. Deardoff, Executive Director of AIEA, are both Members of the IAU International Ad-hoc Expert Group on Re-thinking Internationalization that collaborated with IAU in the drafting of the Call for Action.

They also co-authored an article for IAU Horizons, (Vol. 17.3 & Vol.18.1) which focused on the topic of Re-thinking Internationalization.

The IAU welcomes this AIEA initiative and the resulting increased awareness of the Call and its contents among AIEA member institutions.

Should your institution or association also wish to endorse and/or publish the Call, as have the AIEA and the Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE), please inform Ross Hudson, IAU Programme Officer
