IAU/UNESCO Information Centre on Higher Education
collects, reviews and updates information on policies, national systems
of higher education, institutions, programmes of study, qualifications
and student mobility. It also houses data on issues related to the IAU
priority themes and supports the IAU staff research work. In fact, it
plays a role of clearinghouse and an international resource for
information and reference for all aspects of university life.
Documentary Collections
The collection today consists of some 40,000 volumes on higher
education worldwide and includes: books and reference works, specialized periodicals (rtf, 112
kb), a vast stock of unpublished literature (conference and congress
proceedings, reports, occasional papers, etc.), university catalogues
and CD-ROMs. The Documentation Centre was computerized in 1988. All
materials since then have been catalogued in the international
bibliographic database on higher education (HEDBIB) produced and
maintained by IAU. The link to HEDBIB is provided in the IAU Online
Databases section (for direct link to the database, you may also click here).
The Centre also acts as a gateway to other information resources and
data available on Internet or within the network of UNESCO's
Documentation Centres and Information Units.
