Member Institutions are universities or degree-conferring higher education institutions whose main objective is teaching and research, irrespective of whether or not they carry the name of university. Benefiting from IAU's complete range of services and able to become active participants in all IAU working groups and activities, they also participate in the election of the President and the Administrative Board.

Since the General Conference held in Durban in 2000, IAU has Member Organizations. Member Organizations are higher education organizations active on the national, regional or international level. Just like Member Institutions, they are granted full benefits, voting rights, and are represented on the Administrative Board. This status has been created at Durban's IAU General Conference in 2000.
IAU Observer status can be granted to public or private not-for-profit degree-conferring higher education institutions which do not yet meet the eligibility criteria for Membership of 3 cohorts of students.
The Observer status will be valid until the institution graduates three cohorts of students at which time it will be admitted to full Institutional Membership.

IAU Affiliates are non-governmental organisations or networks, whose primary mandate is related to education and sharing the Association's goals and values but which are not eligible to join as full members. Benefiting from IAU's services, they participate in most of the Association's projects.

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina is a library for up to eight million books, three museums, five research institutes, several exhibition galleries, a planetarium and a conference center that can accommodate up to 3,000 guests.
CHE is an independent statutory body. It was established in May 1998, in conformity with the Programme for the transformation of higher education, aiming at restructuring the country's educational system. The CHE has two main prerogatives: on the one hand, advising the Minister of Education on all matters related to higher education policy issues and, on the other hand, a certification activity, setting and ensuring quality assurance standards of higher education and training in South Africa.
An independent, nonprofit organization founded in 1919, IIE designs and implements programs of study and training for students, educators, young professionals and trainees from all sectors with funding from government agencies, foundations, and corporations.
The Accreditation Council of Trinidad and Tobago is the governing body for the assurance of quality post-secondary and tertiary education in Trinidad and Tobago. It offers services for the public as well as post secondary & tertiary and higher educational institutions or specialised programmes.

Formally created on 24 October 2008, Fundacion Universidad.es is a public foundation aiming at promoting the Spanish higher education system abroad and improving the international visibility of Spanish universities.
The Bologna-based non-profit organisation was created by the University of Bologna and the European University Association (EUA) to watch for the implementation of the Magna Charta Universitatum - signed in Bologna, 1988.
Nuffic is a non-profit professional organization that aims at facilitating access to education all over the world, especially in countries where educational infrastructure is lagging behind. It's main areas of activity are: Development cooperation, Internationalization of higher education, international recognition and certification, marketing of Dutch higher education.
Founded in 2004 as replacement for the Centre for International University Cooperation, SIU is an administrative agency depending on the Norwegian Ministry of Education and Research. Aiming at promoting international exchange and cooperation in higher education, its main prerogatives consist in coordinating measures taken in the frame of national policies and organizing all the Programmes related to internationalized education.
The Observatory's primary purpose is to provide strategic information to enable policy-makers and institutional-organisational leaders to make informed decisions relevant to their existing and/or future transnational higher education initiatives.
IAU Associates
IAU Associates are well known and respected leaders and experts in higher education who share some of IAU's goals and values, and wishing to enhance their personal collaboration with the Association. Connected to the information dissemination programme, Associates attend conferences and participate in IAU projects.
Initially open only to former IAU Board Members, the IAU Associate's category has been broadened beyond former Board members to include all individuals who share an interest in higher education, would bring value to the work of the Association and who wish to work with the IAU.
