  • Al-Quds Open University - Prof. Samir Najdi appointed as President

    Prof. Samir Najdi has been appointed as the President of Al-Quds Open University by the President of the State of Palestine, H.E. Mahmoud Abbas. Prior to this appointment Prof. Najdi was the University’s Vice President for Academic Affairs since 2012.

  • AIUB - Call for participation to the "Folklore 2022-Symphony of the World, Season 2"

    A virtual international celebration of folk performances from around the globe, will be organized by the Office of Student Affairs (OSA), of the American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB), to commemorate the International Mother Language Day. AIUB cordially invites all its collaborative partners to nominate student and/or staff of their respective universities to register and submit up to 2 videos of folk performances (1 folk in their native language and 1 original/cover of their choice). The submission can be either musical, dance, or recital performances, with an optional brief introduction to the heritage and significance of the performance. The registration deadline is set for the 4th of February 2022 (Friday). All submissions for participation must be made by the 11th of February 2022 (Friday), after which the main event will showcase the incredible performances on the 21st of February 2022 (Monday), from 2:00-3:30 PM (Bangladesh Time), on Zoom.   • Milena Králíčková has been elected the first ever female rector of Charles University

    Professor Milena Králíčková was elected in the autumn by the Academic Senate to be Charles University’s new rector and on Wednesday, 26 January 2022 she was appointed by President Miloš Zeman at Prague Castle. Králíčková succeeds to Rector Tomáš Zima, who served as rector for eight years. Previously she was the vice-rector for education, she will be the first woman to head Charles University since its founding in 1348. Professor Králíčková will take office on february 1, 2022.

  • University of Cyprus - Applications still open : Scholarships and Employment Opportunities for the MSc Program in Intelligent Critical Infrastructure Systems

    The innovative MSc Program in Intelligent Critical Infrastructure Systems is offered for the fourth consecutive year by the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Cyprus in collaboration with the KIOS Research and Innovation Center of Excellence (KIOS CoE) and Imperial College London, UK.
    The KIOS CoE offers 10 Master-level Scholarships for this MSc program in Intelligent Critical Infrastructure Systems, starting in September 2022. Scholarships will be awarded based on merit and can cover up to 100% of the tuition fees.
    Interested candidates can apply under any of the following two scholarship schemes:
    - Tuition Scholarship: Includes 50% – 100% of the University tuition fees, depending on applicant qualifications.
    - Tuition & Employment Scholarship: On top of the tuition scholarship, it includes a gross monthly salary for employment at KIOS CoE in the range of €750 – €1100, depending on the monthly working hours. Employment contracts will be offered on an annual basis, which will be renewed for the duration of the MSc studies based on satisfactory annual performance evaluation.

  • University of Liège - MOOC on Climate Change

    The University of Liège, the Laboratoire de Climatologie and CARE Digital Tools have created a MOOC (in French) to understand the dynamics behind climate and global warming. The program of this MOOC, 10 hours spread over 5 weeks is ambitious, but above all it aims to be affordable for everyone. Registration is open until 25 March 2022.   • The University of Macau (UM) - New book launch: Framework Teaching Portuguese as Foreign Language in China

    On Friday 14 January, the University of Macau (UM) and the Macau Scientific and Cultural Centre (CCCM) have launched a new book : ‘Framework Teaching Portuguese as Foreign Language in China’. The event was held in a hybrid format: Face-to-face, in Macau (University of Macau - Library auditorium) and remotely in Lisbon (Macau Scientific and Cultural Centre).
    The book was jointly edited by Maria José Grosso, a visiting professor in the Department of Portuguese of UM and associate professor in the Faculty of Arts of the University of Lisbon; Zhang Jing, an assistant professor in the Department of Portuguese of UM; Catarina Gaspar, an assistant professor in the Faculty of Arts of the University of Lisbon; and Madalena Teixeira, an assistant professor in the Faculty of Education and Psychology of the University of Aveiro.
    This book aims to contribute to a better understanding of the current situation of adult learners of Portuguese who are native Chinese speakers. These learners include students enrolled in undergraduate or master’s degree programmes in Portuguese, as well as students in Portuguese language training courses, such as those offered by the Portuguese Institute of the Orient (IPOR).
